FCM stands in solidarity with Paris. We are Paris. FCM stands in solidarity with Beirut. We are Beirut.
As a Christian religious body we are joined to all people, most particularly those who become victims of planned violence. What can we do? We do not command an army or organize anti-terror offensives. We do not collect intelligence, or infiltrate sleeper cells. The danger is that a sense of helplessness can overcome the belief that we are the change we seek.
So we must do what we have the power to do…
We recognize that as Christian communities and leaders, we stand firmly with the broken. We then recognize our own need to be in tune with our spiritual self. From our inner strength we can achieve calm to confront the roar of fear, the terror of destruction, the desire for revenge. It is from the center of spiritual strength that we offer our hands and hearts to heal the injured, allowing the grace of the love and light of a Christ to move through us repeating in joyful hope, “You shall rise again, and we will rise with you.”
